Tallow FAQ:
Everything You Need to Know

Tallow might be new to you, or you might already know exactly why you like it. Here are honest answers about our ingredients, our methods, and why we do things the way we do.

CFK is where traditional values, natural ingredients and modern craftsmanship come together to create products that are beautiful, practical and made to be enjoyed every day.

Tallow is a nutrient-rich, natural fat gently rendered from beef or lamb. Once purified, it becomes a clean and sustainable powerhouse ingredient that has been used for centuries in traditional skincare and candle making.

No. Properly rendered tallow has a very mild, faintly waxy scent or almost no scent at all.

Because tallow is incredibly similar to the natural oils produced by our own skin, it is generally very well-tolerated and deeply moisturizing for sensitive or dry skin types.

They certainly are! Every item is crafted in small batches in our farm kitchen using time-honoured methods. Our team of talented chandlers and soapers have been skilfully trained to ensure every bar and candle meets our high standards.

We like to keep things local, simple, and honest. While we do extensive research to find the best natural oils and ingredients, our home-grown tallow always remains the "main attraction" in every product we create.

Our products are made without SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) or Palm oil.

We work with natural ingredients and handmade processes in different seasons, no two batches are identical. These small variations in scent, texture or colour are proof of a truly artisanal product!

Handmade tallow soap naturally loses moisture as it cures and dries, so some shrinkage over time is completely normal.

Glycerin is a natural byproduct of saponification, the process of making soap. While it is often removed during commercial soap manufacturing, we leave it exactly where it belongs... in the bar, working for your skin.

Absolutely. We believe clean products should leave a clean footprint, which is why most of our packaging is biodegradable, compostable, or recyclable.

Mica is a natural mineral used for colour, but its mining can be controversial. While we appreciate the vibrant look it provides, we only use it in small amounts in specific, brightly coloured ranges. We go to great lengths to ensure any Mica we use is ethically sourced.

In-stock items: These are usually dispatched within 2–3 days after your payment is confirmed.

The "Curing" Factor: Some of our soaps need up to 4 weeks to cure to ensure the best quality. If your order is affected by this, we’ll let you know and offer alternative options, so you aren't left waiting in the dark.

Store your products in a cool and dry area, away from direct sunlight and humidity.

For soap and laundry bars, a draining soap dish that lets the bar dry out between uses will extend its life considerably.
